Love & Hate es una canción del cantante y compositor británico Michael Kiwanuka que forma parte de su segundo álbum de estudio, también titulado Love & Hate, que fue publicado en 2016 y está compuesta por el propio Kiwanuka junto a Brian Joseph Burton y Dean Cover.

La canción habla de las dudas, de los amores que duelen, de ese tira y afloja entre sentir esperanza y resignación y su melodía es cálida y envolvente, con unos coros que acompañan la voz rasgada de Michael.

Este álbum Love & Hate recibió mucho reconocimiento por su mezcla de soul vintage con una visión moderna, y la canción que le da título destaca como uno de los momentos clave del disco.

Ouverture

Ouverture es una de esas piezas que desde las primeras notas te acaricia el alma. Fue compuesta por el compositor francés Armand Amar. Forma parte de la preciosa banda sonora de la película Belle et Sébastien, estrenada en 2013 y dirigida por Nicolas Vanier.

La banda sonora se publicó ese mismo año y recoge esa mezcla de ternura, aventura y naturaleza que transmite toda la película.

Ouverture es una melodía instrumental breve pero intensa, que abre con delicadeza la banda sonora y que se podría definir simplemente como una pieza preciosa y emotiva, sobre todo con el sonido del violín de Sarah Nemtanu que consigue cada vez que la escucho, traspasarme el alma porque tiene esa magia que no necesita palabras, porque lo dice todo con unos pocos acordes.

Es una de esas melodías que guardo como un pequeño refugio emocional.

Angel in Blue Jeans

Angel in Blue Jeans es una canción que me resulta irresistible desde la primera nota. Fue el primer sencillo del álbum Bulletproof Picasso, el séptimo disco de estudio de la banda estadounidense Train, lanzado en 2014 y fue escrita por Pat Monahan (líder de la banda), Amund Bjørklund y Espen Lind.

Desde su salida la canción se convirtió en un tema clave de la banda y llegó al puesto 79 en el Billboard Hot 100.

Me gusta ese aire desenfadado y toque country que desprende el tema y que es seña de la evolución de Train hacia un pop-rock más fresco.

It Never Rains in Southern California es una de esas canciones que me lleva directamente a los recuerdos más entrañables de mi infancia y adolescencia. Fue escrita por Albert Hammond junto a Mike Hazlewood y lanzada en 1972 como sencillo y tema principal de su álbum debut, también titulado It Never Rains in Southern California, publicado ese mismo año.

Este tema fue un gran éxito y alcanzó el puesto número 5 en el Billboard Hot 100 además de ocupar también posiciones destacadas en varios países europeos.

Para mí, esta canción es mucho más que un clásico, es un puente hacia momentos felices con mi amatxo. Ella era fan de Albert Hammond y gracias a ella descubrí su música. Recuerdo tardes en la cocina donde mi amatxo tarareaba esta melodía mientras cocinaba, y ahora esos pequeños momentos compartidos son recuerdos que guardo en mi alma, en mi memoria y en mi corazón.

On a Bright May Morning

On a Bright May Morning es una de esas canciones que me hacen cerrar los ojos y soñar con lugares serenos donde todo parece posible. Loreena McKennitt la incluye en su álbum The Wind That Shakes the Barley, lanzado en 2010. Es una melodía tradicional, delicada y emotiva y Loreena la envuelve con su maravillosa voz, con el sonido del arpa, las flautas y acordeón, creando una atmósfera que me lleva a relajarme y a creer que otro mundo es posible.

En 2024 la cantó en directo en unos conciertos celebrados en Ontario, Canadá y que se grabaron para su disco The Road Back Home. Este álbum en vivo captura esa misma sensación de conexión cercana y calma que siempre me transmiten sus canciones.

On a Bright May Morning es ese instante de paz que solo la música me puede regalar y Loreena tiene ese don de envolverme en sus historias sonoras y hacerme creer que otro mundo, más tranquilo y poético, existe y late ahí, en cada nota.

Good Morning Little Schoolgirl es un clásico del blues, un tema que nació en 1937, escrito e interpretado por vez primera por John Lee «Sonny Boy» Williamson y que pronto se convirtió en un estándar del género. A lo largo de los años, la han versionado artistas legendarios como Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Ten Years After, adaptándola con su propio estilo.

Una de las versiones que más me gusta es la de Rod Stewart, lanzada como su primer single en solitario en 1964... y eso que Stewart no es uno de mis artistas favoritos... pero aquí se marca una versión grandiosa. Aunque no arrasó en las listas, este tema fue clave para iniciar su carrera.

La versión de Rod mantiene el espíritu del blues, pero con ese toque tan particular que tiene el artista londinense y al escucharla sientes ese impulso que lo lanzó a convertirse en la gran figura que es hoy.

Y será verdad... es una de esas canciones que se sienten como un suspiro largo, profundo. La firmó Vicente Amigo con letra de Alejandro Sanz y aparece en el álbum de Vicente que llevó por título Paseo de Gracia, publicado en 2009. Es una pieza muy especial porque reúne a Alejandro Sanz, al maestro Enrique Morente, a Pedro Heredia "El granaíno", que aporta su cante flamenco con una emoción desgarrada que me pone la piel de gallina y también Kiki Morente, que con su voz joven pero llena de tradición, aporta una energía especial que equilibra la emoción y la herencia.

Cada uno de ellos deja su alma en esta canción con su verdad, su duende y su manera de decir lo que nos pesa en el alma. La guitarra de Vicente Amigo aporta esa pureza flamenca, mientras Alejandro pone el tono cálido que parece que te habla al oído, Morente añade una hondura incomparable con la profundidad de quien canta con el alma rota… y Pedro Heredia, con esa autenticidad flamenca que hace que todo suene más verdadero. Juntos construyen una canción que es lamento, esperanza y belleza a la vez, creando una atmósfera casi mágica.

Be Honest es una preciosa canción compuesta por el cantante y compositor estadounidense Jason Mraz junto a Michael Lee Natter e interpetada por el propio Mraz junto a la cantautora estadounidense Inara George. Una joya que aparece en el álbum del primero que llevó por título Love Is a Four Letter Word y que fue lanzado en 2012.

Personalmente, Be Honest es de esas canciones que me abrazan y me recuerdan lo importante que es mostrarse tal como uno es y que siempre que la escucho me dibuja una sonrisa.
