A Song for You

A Song for You es una preciosa canción escrita y grabada originalmente por el cantante y pianista Leon Russell para su primer álbum homónimo en solitario lanzado en 1970.

El tema ha sido grabado por más de 200 artistas de distintos géneros musicales y una de las primera versiones que consiguió un gran éxito fue la que en 1971 realizó el cantante estadounidense Andy Williams, pero en 1994, el cantante y compositor estadounidense Ray Charles grabó una versión que le hizo ganar el Grammy a la Mejor Interpretación Vocal Masculina de R&B.

Pero ha habido versiones igual de maravillosas, como la que en 1972 realizaron The Carpenters, en 1973 Willie Nelson, en 1974 Aretha Franklin, en 2005 Herbie Hancock con Christina Aguilera o en 2011 Amy Winehouse, entre muchísimas más.

En enero de 2018 A Song for You entro a formar parte del Salón de la Fama de los Grammy.

Con motivo del 90 cumpleaños del gran Willie Nelson celebrado el 29 y 30 de abril de 2023 en el legendario Hollywood Bowl de Los Ángeles, numerosos artistas se reunieron para homenajearle, lanzándose el álbum grabado en directo en este 2024 bajo el título Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 (Live at the Hollywood Bowl), siendo una de las canciones interpretadas A Song for You por parte de la banda estadounidense The Lumineers, creando una maravillosa versión de esta canción atemporal.

Estamos ante una canción que bajo su sencillez nos habla sobre el poder de la música para expresar los sentimientos más profundos.

Te he prometido

Te he prometido es una canción de 1969 del cantante y compositor argentino Leo Dan y que en 2024 la banda Revólver hace una estupenda versión de esta pequeña joya musical que aparece dentro de su álbum Playlist.

Always on My Mind

Always on My Mind es una canción compuesta por Johnny Christopher, Mark James y Wayne Carson que fue publicada por vez primera en 1972 por la cantante afroamericana Gwen McCrae bajo el título de You Were Always on My Mind.

Ese mismo año la interpretaron la cantante estadounidense Brenda Lee y por Elvis Presley. La sesión de la grabación de Elvis fue filmada y en 1981 apareció en el documental This is Elvis.

A lo largo de los años numerosos artistas han hecho sus particulares versiones, entre las que destacan entre otros la que hizo en 1982 Willie Nelson que llegó a ser nombrada la canción del año y consiguiendo al año siguiente el Premio Grammy a la Mejor Canción del Año y el de la Mejor Canción Country. Otras versiones fueron la que hicieron en 1987 Pet Shop Boys que fue el sencillo navideño Nº 1 del año y esta considerada como una de las mejores versiones de todos los tiempos, la de 1995 de Chris de Burgh, la que hizo en 1998 Johnny Cash junto a Willie Nelson o la del 2020 de la mano de Shirley Bassey.

The Crying Game

The Crying Game es una canción escrita por el compositor inglés Geoff Stephens e interpretada por primera vez en 1964 de la mano del cantante inglés Dave Berry, alcanzando en puesto nº 5 en las listas de singles del Reino Unido y contando con la colaboración en la guitarra de Jimmy Page.

Posteriormente la cantante estadounidense Brenda Lee hizo una nueva versión y en 1992 el cantante inglés Boy George hizo otra versión que apareció en los títulos de crédito de la película The Crying Game del director irlandés Neil Jordan.

Esta versión fue producida por Pet Shop Boys y llegó al TOP 20 en distintas listas musicales alrededor del mundo, convirtiéndose en el mayor éxito de George en Estados Unidos y Canadá.

En esta versión de Boy George, aparece en los coros la voz del cantante de los Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant, y en la película se escuchan dos versiones más del tema, una del artista original y otra interpretada por el actor principal Jaye Davidson.

Wonderwall

Wonderwall es un temazo de la banda inglesa Oasis que fue lanzado como cuarto sencillo de su álbum de 1995 que llevó por título (What´s the Story) Morning Glory? y que fue compuesto por el cantante y guitarrista de la banda, Noel Gallagher.

Posiblemente sea uno de los temas más conocidos de la banda inglesa, con el que consiguieron  vender más de 1,8 millones de copias hasta el 2017 solamente en el Reino Unido y lograron llegar al TOP 10 en las listas musicales de todo el mundo.

La canción ha recibido numerosas versiones a lo largo de los años y entre ellas se encuentra la que en 2013 realizó el dúo británico Hurts y que aparece dentro de su EP de 2013 que llevó por título Blind.
