(Just Like) Starting Over

(Just Like) Starting Over es una canción escrita e interpretada por John Lennon y lanzada y publicada el 9 de octubre de 1980, justo el día que Lennon cumplía 40 años. Forma parte de su álbum Double Fantasy, editado por Geffen Records y marcó su regreso a la música tras cinco años de retiro, en los que se había dedicado a su hijo Sean y a su vida familiar junto a Yoko Ono. Lennon la concibió como una especie de homenaje a los grandes del rock and roll de los 50, como Elvis Presley o Roy Orbison.

Antes de su muerte, la canción había llegado al número 6 en las listas estadounidenses, pero tras su asesinato el 8 de diciembre de ese mismo año, el tema alcanzó el número 1 en Estados Unidos y Reino Unido, convirtiéndose en el mayor éxito en solitario de su carrera, manteniéndose cinco semanas en lo más alto del Billboard Hot 100.

Décadas después, el 8 de octubre de 2010, Apple iTunes lanzó una versión remasterizada con motivo del 70 aniversario de su nacimiento, recordando a un Lennon luminoso, en plenitud creativa y personal.

Jealous Guy

Jealous Guy es una canción compuesta por el gran músico británico John Lennon y que apareció por vez primera en su álbum de 1971 Imagine.

Es una de sus canciones más versionadas, con más de 92 versiones distintas, entre las que se encuentran las de Donny Hathaway, Roxy Music y Lou Reed.

Lennon comenzó a escribir esta canción en 1968 con el título de Child of Nature y fue una de las muchas canciones que se grabaron como maquetas en la casa de George Harrison antes de que los Beatles grabasen su White Album.

La letra estaba originalmente inspirada por Maharishi Manesh Yogi, cuando la banda asistió como restiro espiritual a la India. Finalmente, cuando la relación entre Lennon y Yoko Ono estaba en uno de su momentos más álgidos, el músico cambió la letra y el título de la canción y la publicó en solitario.

Woman es una preciosa canción del artista británico John Lennon que aparece dentro del álbum de 1980 que llevó por título Double Fantasy. La canción está compuesta por el propio Lennon, estaba dirigida a su esposa, la artista japonesa Yoko Ono y fue el segundo sencillo del álbum y el primero publicado tras la muerte del músico británico, el 8 de diciembre de 1980.

Una canción que habla de amor, del perdón, de dar las gracias, del crecimiento interior... y de la importancia que supuso para Lennon el que apareciese en su vida Yoko.

La cara B del sencillo era una canción de cuna dedicada al hijo de ambos, Sean y que fue escrita por Yoko Ono.

Como dato curioso, comentar que el coro que aparece al comienzo de la canción fue utilizado por Michael Jackson en su canción de 1991 Black or White.

En 2005, el músico británico Ozzy Osbourne grabó una versión para su álbum recopilatorio Under Cover.

Happy Xmas (War is Over) es una maravillosa canción de mi admirado John Lennon grabada y lanzada como sencillo en 1971 en Estados Unidos, aunque en el Reino Unido el lanzamiento se retrasaría un año. En la canción participa, además de la que era su mujer Yoko Ono, el coro de niños del Harlem Community Choir. Realmente esta canción que se ha convertido en una de las más cantadas por diferentes artistas y que aparece en todos los recopilatorios navideños, se escribió como una canción protesta contra la Guerra de Vietnam.
