Dance Me to the End of Love

Dance Me to the End of Love es una canción del poeta y cantautor canadiense Leonard Cohen que aparece dentro de su álbum de 1984 que llevó por título Various Positions y que ha sido versionada a lo largo de los años por numerosos artistas, entre los que se encuentran la que en 2004 hizo Madeleine Peyroux o la realizada por Jorge Drexler.

Esta canción está llena de la belleza con la que nos llena la vida la música de Cohen y aunque en un principio bien podría pensarse que es una canción de amor, realmente está inspirada en el Holocausto. Según indicó el propio Leonard en una entrevista "El origen de cada canción, tiene una especie de grano o semilla que alguien te entrega o que el mundo te da. Esto vino de escuchar o leer o conocer que en los campos de concentración, al lado de los crematorios, en algunos de los campos de la muerte, un cuarteto de cuerdas era presionado a tocar mientras el horror continuaba. Y estaban tocando música clásica mientras sus compañeros de prisión estaban siendo asesinados y quemados... Esa música, que significa la belleza,, allí está siendo la consumación de la vida, el final de la existencia y del elemento pasional en esa consumación. De ahí el mismo lenguaje que usamos para entregarnos a la persona amada".

Una maravillosa canción llena de verdad y tristeza, de pasión y dolor, de la intensidad y sensibilidad que solamente los grandes artistas pueden transmitir.
